The World’s Largest Truck Convoy Is Returning to Joplin
The Special Olympics of Missouri is gearing up to host their annual Truck Convoy fundraiser on September 25th in the heart of Joplin, MO. This one-day event is a national celebration of the trucking industry. From allied partners to law enforcement, each year members, friends, and family of the trucking community come together at the Truck Convoy to raise funds for Special Olympic athletes in conjunction with the Guilty By Association Truck Show (GBATS). This is an event you surely don’t want to miss, and it’s right around the corner!
What are the SOMO Truck Convoy and GBATS?
Have you ever seen a semi-truck do a burnout? Been to a truck and tractor pull? If you’re interested in either of those exciting events and more, then GBATS is the event for you! GBATS is a biannual weekend event held by the Chrome Shop Mafia & 4 State Trucks. It’s the perfect crossover between a truck show, customer expo, and open house where you can join truckers from all over to enjoy all aspects of trucking and the fun things that come with it in addition to amazing food and games!
Just like the Truck Convoy, GBATS is hosted in Joplin, MO, and falls on the same weekend! The morning of the Truck Convoy, GBATS hosts a breakfast for Special Olympics of Missouri, which all proceeds are donated to. After breakfast, the convoy kicks off as tons of trucks depart in a fleet from 4-State Trucks to the Street Party downtown at 26th and Maiden Lane where more fun, games, and a free concert by country music star Joe Nichols awaits! If you aren’t already in the Joplin area, these are definitely events worth the drive in.
Roll Out for a Cause
The day of the Truck Convoy is about celebrating the trucking community and having fun, but it also serves a larger purpose. The whole event was started by the Special Olympics of Missouri to raise money for the Special Olympics athletes competing in the upcoming games.
Special Olympics of Missouri has provided year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities for over 50 years. These games provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Without events like the Truck Convoy, these games wouldn’t be able to take place.
